Following the team attending the World Council for Gifted & Talented Children Conference in Sydney, we planned some Mindfulness sessions for our personal development strand of the Mindplus curriculum. One session we attended spoke of the difficulties our G&T students experience with their social and emotional development. He listed a number of self soothing techniques , TEACH SELF SOOTHING TECHNIQUES - meditation, mindfulness, yoga, journaling, singing, grounding practices, wet grass, bare feet, bush walk, breathing deeply in nature.
Dr Manoj Chandra Hanra was one of my favourite speakers, we wished he had been a Keynote session, a very exceptional man! He spoke about fostering students spiritual creativity and allowing time to get connected to their inner selves. and listed these strategies.
Use inner knowledge - provide time for reflective thinking
Seek to understand self - Use journal writing
Be sensitive to social problems - Use for open ended discussion of issues
Develop a capacity to care - Study lives of people who have made a difference
Close to nature - Use eco - environmental studies

The students have really embraced these short sessions of relaxation, you can use these at home if your child needs some chill time to calm the mind before sleep!Focussing on the breath is a powerful life long strategy we would all benefit from! Enjoy....
