Thursday students experienced a unique field trip today to the Invercargill waste water treatment station. It was a surprise for some this was not the fresh water supply but rather the sewerage! The treatment plant operates automatically and is constantly monitored by a team of operators.
Mr Paul Henderson and Alec were our informative tour guides, students saw the entire system. We followed the sewerage from the screens that catch the initial solids like rags and plastic bags and all manner of things that should not be flushed! The collection of Smurfs, lego, false teeth and many other items was amusing.
Some students also had to conquer their fear of heights and ladders, some staff did too.
