Happy St Patricks day, to be sure, to be sure...
Thursday students enjoyed sampling some Green Bread Rolls today and were pleasantly surprised they tasted just like bread rolls should!
This week students have been viewing a very interesting Ted Talk called Why Bees Are Disappearing...
This has then been followed up by a learning task called POOCH - Problems, Options, Outcomes and lastly Choices. Students have had to use problem solving skills to think critically about the issues bees are facing. They clarify issues by using logic in judging the information they have been introduced to.
Students discussed a number of alternative solutions before selecting their final solution.
This was a very busy discussion time as there were many issues identified and many new concepts to research more about like pesticides and parasites.
Beehives are a fascinating system and it was pleasing the students were able to draw on last weeks new knowledge of the four systems they are learning about: Animate, Mechanistic, Ecological and Social.
