Once again our students have had the pleasure of listening to inspiring change makers from our community. Janice Lee talked about her amazing community initiative, Koha Kai, and how it provides social and working opportunities for people with disabilities. Sherry Elton, a nutritionist, talked about the personal change she has made in her life around food and nutrition. And our very own Mayor Tim Shadbolt talked about his personal journey starting in Remuera all the way to the highs and lows as Mayor of Invercargill.
The Tuesday and Thursday Architecture students are busy designing their dream house using two amazing apps; Home design and Room Planner. Both apps are free from the App Store and allow students to create comfy living environments from scratch. The students can then take a tour of their design in 3D view.
Tuesday students started their Chemistry & Change Challenges. They are developing their knowledge and understanding of physical changes and chemical changes. They have also discussed and differentiated between physical changes and chemical reactions.
Students then watched this video clip and made their own bubble maker, this required measurement and knowledge of 3D shapes.
Tensile Bubbles was very fun!
We were so privileged to have the presence of Dave today talking to the students the importance of making a positive change in our community. Through a very interactive session, the students learned about the importance of democratic decision making.
Solving problems by consulting a large range of people and accepting their diverse opinions and different ways of thinking, and accepting these.
The students enjoyed the challenge this task presented and Dave enjoyed our students thinking and responses.
This was a great introduction to the Monday students who are embarking on an individual research challenge project. They will be required to research a variety of Changemakers and then plan a social action of change for themselves.
