This week students are completing their Technology Planning to prepare them for making the 3 dimensional brain models next week.
Students have had to
· plan the materials required for construction
· identify which parts of the brain they are representing
· Justify their choices by stating why they are important
· Design colour choices
· Design a labeled prototype
· Seek feedback on their designs
Next week the programme will be collapsed to allow ample creating time to make a good start on these models.
Habits of Mind
Today the students began their learning about the Habits of Mind we gathered baseline data to show what knowledge students already had and then we introduced some of the 16 habits.
The intent is to help students get into the habit of behaving intelligently. A Habit of Mind is a pattern of intellectual behaviors that leads to productive actions.
When we experience dichotomies, are confused by dilemmas, or come face-to-face with uncertainties, our most effective response requires drawing forth certain patterns of intellectual behavior. When we draw upon these intellectual resources, the results are more powerful, of higher quality, and of greater significance than if we fail to employ such patterns of intellectual behavior.
We will continue to discuss and unpack each of the 16 habits this term.
The digital storytelling process helps us transform isolated facts into
illuminated, enduring understandings. By “living in the story,” we make
information come emotionally alive. By exploring “lessons learned,” we go beyond telling about content to find its deeper meaning.
We will be experimenting with a variety of media to produce podcasts, video, interviewing, planning and debating ideas to create a variety of end products.
We hope to produce some documentaries and design an online newspaper.
